Buratai seeks strategic partnership among security agencies to end Insecurity

Former Nigeria’s Chief of Army staff, Tukur Yusuf Buratai, on Saturday, urged relevant security agencies, stakeholders to engage in strategic partnerships to eradicate security challenges disrupting the peace of the country.

He made this known during his installation as the 2nd Patron of the Institute of Security, Nigeria, at the 17th annual international security conference and investiture ceremony, held at the faculty of social sciences auditorium, University of Lagos.

“We must engage in strategic partnerships, collaboration among security agencies, government and stakeholders to combat emerging security challenges in the country” he said.

Speaking on the need to advance security education for stable political systems, socio economic development, good governance and mitigating good governance in Nigeria, the Provost of Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), Professor Olatunde Babawale, called on the Nigeria’s ruling elite to work in unity to solve the problem of insecurity.

“We cannot solve our problem of security challenge if we do not have elite consensus. There is no country that has developed without the elite having a vision of where they want their country to be. This is the only country in the world where we have a ruling elite that I think is irrational” he said.

He disclosed that lack of security education result to destabilizing environment but having the knowledge would enable Nigerians to identify security threats, implication of the threats, and take preventive actions against them.

Babawale urged the Nigerian government to institutionalize whistleblowing mechanism, increase student representation in educational institutions’ decision-making, strengthen security forces, address border vulnerability, promote the principle of peaceful coexistence among others.

“The government needs to institutionalize whistleblowing mechanism, increase student representation in educational institutions’ decision-making, strengthen security forces, address border vulnerability’’ he added.

President of the institute, Dele Olowokudejo, advised the Nigerian youths and women to participate in politics so that the old politicians will create successions plans for them to take over the mantle of power in the future.

 “Nigerian youths and women should usually complain that old politicians continue to dominate top political appointments. This is an advise for them to participate in politics so that the old politicians will create successions plans for them to take over the mantle of power in the future” he siad.

Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, represented by Pastor David Osayande, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusufu Burutai (Rtd), Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama, Mr Dennis Amachree, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo and others were honored with distinguished fellowship awards by the Institute of Security, Nigeria.
